While not always the easiest thing to do — keep a list of gift ideas for family/friends as they come to you and even if you don’t actually do the shopping early, you won’t be grasping at straws come Christmas Eve!
KEEP QUICK GIFTS ON HAND
AKA stock up on some nicer bottles of wine you can easily grab for last minute parties/get togethers. It takes the pressure off of gatherings when you aren’t scrambling to find a hostess gift!
With your husband and your older children (Elizabeth SWEARS by this tip!) so you don’t double book or over-extend yourself!
WARDROBE YOU CAN ROTATE
Shopping for five outfits for holiday parties can really add up. Rent The Runway offers an AMAZING unlimited package where for only $159 a month you can rent four designer items at a time and exchange them as many times as you want! It’s a no-brainer for holiday season — you’re never wearing the same thing twice!
UTILIZE LOCAL BUSINESSES
If you don’t cook — don’t cook! Plenty of caterers and local businesses offer holiday catering at a seriously great price. If you hate baking call up a local bakery and pick up your favorite pie. Trust us, no one will care that you don’t slave away hand-making one! And you can feel good about supporting local companies.
WORK WHILE YOU TRAVEL
No, don’t text and drive — but plan a phone call for a long drive. Or, if you’re a passenger bring some paperwork along to break up the travel. It’s not ideal but at least you won’t have that Holiday hangover of trying to play catch up.
LET GO OF THE GUILT
Mom guilt. Wife guilt. Work guilt. Stress guilt. The holiday’s amplify all of our worries but try not to put so much pressure on making Christmas “perfect” by the standard definition — focus on what makes Christmas perfect for YOUR family! Embrace being perfectly IMPERFECT! If you don’t care that your tree is perfectly decorated then let that go, get the kids involved and enjoy the “family tree.” It might not be a Pinterest photo but your kids might love it even more!
